This year, BMW Group celebrates its centenary. While it’s a golden opportunity for us to look back at how far we’ve come, there is a firm focus on the Next 100 Years of innovation.
The recent centenary celebration in Munich was a great opportunity to unveil the BMW Vision Vehicle. This futuristic car represents the vision for the BMW brand. It has embarked on a world tour, and along the way – Vision Vehicles for the MINI, Rolls Royce and BMW Motorrad brand will be revealed.
Looking to our own shores, BMW Group has committed to a long-term investment in BMW Plant Rosslyn, and South Africa as a whole. Plant Rosslyn was the first plant to operate outside of Europe. Now, with the recent investment of R6 billion from BMW Group, Plant Rosslyn is set to begin producing the next generation BMW X3 – a leap forward for the South African automotive sector and the economy.
Part of what makes the BMW brand so iconic though, is our passionate and far-reaching following. As such we invite you to get involved and celebrate 100 years of BMW with us. Share a photo of your first BMW, MINI or BMW Motorrad motorcycle and you could win an experience on the track. Find out more about the competition by clicking here.
BMW Plant Rosslyn was recently awarded the Platinum Plant Quality Award in the J.D. Power 2015 Initial Quality Study. The title means that Plant Rosslyn is effectively the highest performing assembly plant in the world for initial quality.
The main deciding factor of the award was the fact that the plant had the fewest defects or malfunctions when producing BMW 3 Series models. “We are delighted about Plant Rosslyn being awarded this prestigious international award. It is a true testament to the quality, craftsmanship and excellence we strive for in the production of each of our BMW 3 Series Sedan vehicles,” remarked Tim Abbott, Managing Director of BMW Group South Africa.
Plant Rosslyn was the BMW Group’s first foreign plant in 1973 and represents a cornerstone of the BMW Group’s global production network. In 2014, BMW 3 Series Sedan exports from Plant Rosslyn increased by over 17% – which clearly solidified BMW South Africa’s position as the country’s leading exporter of premium vehicles. Furthermore, in February this year, Plant Rosslyn reached a remarkable milestone when the one-millionth vehicle rolled off the assembly line.
